Activities/Sports

Winter Program

We have the equipment and instuctors to provide a wide range of activities for students of all ages. Skiing (using regular skis, bi-skis or mono-skis) and snowboarding. Reservations are required.

Our volunteer instructors are well trained in adaptive techniques, many having Professional Ski Instructors of America certification.

The techniques used are taylored to the individual abilities of each student with safety and FUN! at the forefront.

All lessons are taught on a private basis, one-on-one or even two-on one. The lesson times are from 9:30 – 12 and from 1 – 3:30 daily. Please note that if you have made a reservation for both morning and afternoon lessons, there is a one hour break between 12 and 1. Instructors are not available during this time.

The program is operated from our facilities in the Panorama Gondola/Woollywood building at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area Main Lodge. Handicapped parking is available nearby. Directions and Map here.

Summer Program

The summer programs at DSES are continuing to expand and evolve. Mammoth Mountain, the Town of Mammoth Lakes and the surrounding areas offer a wealth of recreational activities. Programs include kayaking, rock climbing, camping, hiking, cycling/mountain bike rides, horseback riding and some enjoyable outdoor adventure learning activities.

“Our main purpose is to open the doors and make everything accessible for people with special needs. We want everyone to enjoy the experience of being active” said Kathy Copeland, Executive Director of DSES.

The staff is trained in adaptive techniques for each activity offered, so that assistance will be readily available while still maintaining the ultimate goal of personal independence for all those who participate.

All summer activities are scheduled individually and are specific to personal interests and capabilities. Please call 760.934.0791 to schedule your adventure activities or for answers to your questions.
